Naken Chat

News

February 16, 2010: Finally found some time to release the latest version. I've been running it on my site for a month after fixing bugs from the pre-release and it seems to be fine. So the code for 2.20 has changed pretty significantly since 2.12. Code has been cleaned up and there is a plugin interface and a sqlite user database.

I also started dabbling with a MacOSX client and plan on maybe doing an iPod client, but we'll see how much time I have. I also want to re-do the Java applet which, altho it seems to work really well is some of my first Java code and is quite gross due to that and the fact that I had to do some pretty ugly hacks to make it "write once run anywhere" since things like the scrollbars weren't working right back then.

June 16, 2009: Posted another updat which fixes a bug in gagging (thanks to my friend Abdullah (ab) for looking into this with me :). I still have at least one bug to fix and I thought of a new feature I want to add too. Maybe in the next couple weeks I'll implement it.

March 1, 2009: Posted a new prerelease of the latest Naken Chat. I changed the core significantly actually. The code should be easier to read and should run a bit faster. I also added the ability to do date/time stamping on the log file (are you happy now Eddy? :). There still may be bugs so if anyone finds anything, please email me. This should be a feature freeze now.

January 12, 2009: Posted a new prerelease of the latest Naken Chat. Derrick Rose is currently working on his new Naken Chat client called Little Bear (for Windows, Linux, and Mac) which has some pretty neat features. Also, as much as I normally hate bots, his Naken Bot project is pretty nice. It has a built in language translator and dictionary program which has been quite useful for communicating with people from other countries on our Naken Crew server.

January 10, 2009: I'm still working on the newest version of Naken Chat. I did a lot of code cleanup and such, some more speed optimizations, and I'm adding plugin support. C plugin will definitely be an option and I'm hoping Perl and Python will follow with the latest release.

January 1, 2009: Working on version 2.13 of the chat. Right now the features I implemented are: NO_OWNER channels and the ability to push a user into a channel with .G (instead of just .G to grab them into the channel you're currently in, you can do .G to push them into a channel called ). I also fixed some goofiness and hopefully made some code a little faster. I'll post a prerelease in the downloads section. I also have a python chat client I was working on a while ago. I just don't have a lot of time lately for this. Oh, also this version of the chat is now GPL. I'm also currently adding a SQLite username/password database, but I might make that release 2.14 instead.

June 28, 2007: I posted Naken Chat 2.12. Fixed an issue that made the WHO_FILE unconfigurable at compile time. Also fixed an issue with .F and increased the speed of the get_num() function dramatically.

March 2, 2007: I posted a copy of Naken Chat 2.11. Fixed an issue with dynamically allocated lines (when the user number is more than the minimum connections and less than the maximum).. sometimes lines would become unusable.

There is currently a problem with the mobile phone midlet for some phones (including the Nokia N70 I believe). I plan to fix that in the next couple days.

February 4, 2007: I posted a copy of Naken Chat 2.10. This version fixes a buffer overflow in input data. It also adds a setuid feature for the Unix version allowing root to start up Naken Chat while the server runs with the privileges of another user:group (such as nobody:nobody). I also broke the chat up into smaller files so it's easier to read. Finally I changed all \n\r's to \r\n's.
