Naken Chat

How To Install Naken Chat For Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/XP

To install Naken Chat on Windows, the first step is to download the Windows binary. On the download page grab the file under the heading "Windows Binaries". This will be called something like nakenchat-2.03.zip. If you aren't using Windows XP you will then need to uncompress the zip archive. You can do this with WinZIP or any program like it. On Windows XP you can right click on the file and select "Extract All". This will create a folder with a name like "nakenchat-2.03" (depending on what version of the chat you have downloaded). It would probably be a good idea to move this folder to C: and rename it "nakenchat". So in the end you should have a folder called C:\nakenchat with nakenchat.exe, nakenchat.conf, nakenchat_start.vbs, and nakenchat_stop.vbs.

It is then recommended that you configure the chat by editing the nakenchat.conf file. You can open this file in notepad and edit it there. Click here for information on the nakenchat.conf parameters.

To start the chat you can simply click on nakenchat_start.vbs and to stop it you can click on nakenchat_stop.vbs. After the chat is started you can click on "Start->Run" and type telnet localhost 6666 to test if the chat is working or not. Later you can install the chat applet or use a program like OpenNaken to use the chat.

After logging in, there are many commands you can test out. All commands start with a . (or optionally / works also). Sysop commands are all capital letters and normal user commands are all lowercase. Click here for a list of Naken Chat sysop and normal user commands.

If something isn't quite clear, feel free to email me and let me know so I can change this doc file. It's hard to write simple, easy to understand documentation, plus there are many features in the chat that I'm probably forgetting while I'm writing this file.
